getting matched with Mo, part 5

So Wednesday ended badly. I ended up calling Jessica back and left her a voicemail to ask if our file was going to selection committee on Thursday.

Thursday, more waiting.....

Jessica called around 2 in the afternoon and said that our file wasn't going to selection committee that Abbie, the director could still approve it but they needed to talk to our local social worker, Kim, who was doing our homestudy.

Kim only works part time, so her schdedule is sometimes a little crazy. I called Kim and emailed her to let her know.

Kim called me back around 5:30 and I quickly gave her a rundown of where we were. She said she needed to talk to Nick. She had already done my individual interview, but hadn't done Nick's yet and just wanted to touch base with him. I told her to give him a call (we were actually together, but my phone was dying)

Kim called Nick and talked to him for about 15 minutes. As he was hanging up, I was shouting- Ask her if she is calling Jessica! He just nodded at me and got off the phone.... aghhh! He said Kim said she would try to call Jessica right then.

So, more waiting......

I had made my mind up if Jessica hadn't called by 5:30 our time on Friday, I would call. I just could NOT wait all weekend, there was no way!

Let me just tell you for the past three days I had checked my phone about a gazillion times to make sure it was on, make sure I didn't miss a call, make sure everything was working. I was a bit over the top!

Friday I put my phone right on my desk and started the every 4 minute checks to make sure it was on and I hadn't missed anything.

I didn't have to wait long. About 11 my phone rang and it was area code 541... HOLT!!! I jumped out of my desk, nearly broke my neck, and booked it outside to the porch.

Me: *gasping for breath* Hello
Jessica: Hey Mary Leigh, it's Jessica. Is this a good time?
Me: *still breathing hard and I'm pretty sure Jessica could hear my heart beating through the phone* Oh yeah, it's fine.
Jessica: Well, I just wanted to call and tell you I spoke with Abbie and we would like to match you with him. Congratulations!

I wish I could tell you the rest of the conversation, but I can't. I can't remember. I was just on cloud nine.

I hung up with her and immediately called Nick and shouted: HE'S OURS!!!!

After being excited with Nick for a few minutes I called mom. She was brushing her teeth and told me to hang on. I said, you don't have to talk, just listen... He's ours! Now, she was brushing her teeth and you know how hard it is to talk when brushing your teeth, imagine what she sounded like trying to scream. Too funny!

I then called my daddy, my grandparents, send some text messages. Lori, my boss, walked out on the porch and said, so was that the call. I said yes and He's Ours! She headed up the mountain to tell Larry.

I finished my phone calls and texts messages, made a post on my blog, and updated facebook.

A few minutes later Lori called me back into our conference room, where she and Larry had a Happy Birthday cake for me. It was my birthday as a mom. (and that's when I realized it was Mo's 10 mth birthday! How cool to get matched on his birthday!)

I forgot to take a picture before we cut into it, so here is a picture of the cake after we ate.

I told Lori I would be worthless the rest of the day!

That night Nick and I went out to dinner at Outback to celebrate and then we carved our pumpkins! What a great great great great day!
He was ours!!!!
