Let's learn about Korea: the Won

Show me the money!

Korea's currency is called the Won.

The Won has a long history and has been the currency of South Korea a few times.

The won was reintroduced on June 9, 1962 and became the sole legal tender on March 22, 1975 At the reintroduction of the won in 1962, its value was pegged at 125 won = 1 U.S. dollar.

Currently the exchange rate is approximately 1 won=0.000889 dollar. So a dollar is 1116 won.

Talk about a culture shock when I try to buy something for 11,160 wons and it's really only like $10.

I'm getting my shopping list together for what to purchase in Korea!
