Happy 1st Birthday

Today is really tomorrow in Korea. So right now in Korea it's Bates' First Birthday!

Never did I imagine my son would be all the way around the world on his first birthday and not at home with his mom and dad eating birthday cake.

It's a little, well, a lot bittersweet. Of course I want my son home to celebrate with us, but in the same breath this journey has been such a gift, I want to cherish this time.

To celebrate Nick and I are going to dinner at a traditional Korean restaurant. Our first Korean experience!
Dinner will be followed by cake and ice cream at our friends Casey and TJ's house. Casey asked if she could have Bates' a little party with just some close friends, so I said of course!

Bates,
Happy 1st birthday, son. Mom and Dad wish with all their hearts that we could be there with you to celebrate, but I'm sure your Foster Mom and Dad will celebrate with you (I hope they take pictures!)

So today as you celebrate with your foster family, know we are there with you in our hearts. We will sing you Happy Birthday and maybe God will whisper our song into your heart. Sorry buddy, mom's not such a good singer!

We are so thankful that one year ago today when you were born, God had a plan for you, and a plan for us, and that plan was to be together as a family forever. And we couldn't be happier that was his plan for us!

We look forward to celebrating EVERY birthday with you for the rest of your life. We cherish you, little one, and will celebrate with you everyday of our lives!

Love you, forever and always,
Mom and Dad
