Nick might kill me, he doesn't know I'm doing this!
On one of the legal forms we have to put Jeong-Hwan's American name. They will issue his Korean passport in his American name! If we leave it blank they will issue it in his Korean name (Jeong-Hwan Choe).
So it's not a HUGE deal, but selfishly I want it in his American name, just to finally have an offical form that says BATES BROWN!
But, we have run into a little snag.
We were originally going to name him Bates Martin Jeong Brown. The more we talk about it and I think about it, I don't want him to have a double middle name. I mean, that will be a nightmare for him in school and on official documents. So Nick and I talked about just naming him Bates and then keeping a part of his Korean name. It's important for me to keep part of his Korean name somewhere, somehow.
So, it's up to a popular vote. Of course Nick and I get final say, but cast your ballots now.

I vote for Bates Choe Brown. Is the Choe pronounced Show? Cho? Hopefully it's Cho. Bates Choe Brown sounds great. I like the initials too.
ReplyDeleteI am partial to the double middle name. Ya know, the boyfriend has one too. I like keeping the Korean family name. It's part of us, so why not just keep it around?
ReplyDeleteI like the double name thing (both of mine have double first names). It's not too big of a deal in school stuff. I usually put John David as a first name and leave middle blank-if that's what you're worried about. And, some of the kids I have get to "choose" what they want to put on test forms they fill out; it kinda gives them a choice in their name for certain things, and they have never minded.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide! They are all good options. I'm sure you two will make the right choice!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking it over all day and I can't seem to pick one either. I think one middle name would be simpler and I am leaning toward Jeong or Hwan. I keep thinking when people hear Hwan they might think Juan though which would be weird. So I guess I have decided, I vote Bates Jeong Brown.
ReplyDeleteMy vote goes for Bates Jeong Brown.
ReplyDeleteI like all 4 names... there is meaning to all of them.
ReplyDeleteI say do two middles. Martin is important to you. Keep it unless Bates might have a little brother named Martin:)
ReplyDeleteI like Bates Choe Brown...I agree with the 4 names potentially being a nightmare. And..yes Nick may kill you.
ReplyDeleteOk...I like the 2 middles, but agree that it could be a pain on legal forms in the future. Is his Korean name hypenated? If so...could you use both as one middle name? (Bates Jeong-Hwan Brown) If you use just one I vote for Jeong.
ReplyDeleteTell Nick this is what girls do...we ask for lots of input so we can make a WELL THOUGHT OUT decision! He still gets final vote since he IS Daddy :)

Like others have said they are all great but if voting I would choose...
ReplyDeleteBates Jeong Brown
I have a double middle name and it's not a huge issue. (Leigh-Ann) But, if I have to vote on one without a double middle name, I say Bates Jeong Brown. I like the Initials too - BJB.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun meeting you and Nick last night!! May God continue to bless the adoption process.:)
ReplyDeleteAll the names options are great!!
Two middle names are an awesome legacy for Bates! I say go with your first instinct.
