KD and Skate for Bates

In fall of 2000, I stood in my college dorm and watched my parents walk out the front of the building and never felt more alone in my life.
The next few weeks are weeks that changed my life. They were weeks that put me on a path to some of my best friends, life changing moments, and to meeting my future husband.

I pledged Kappa Delta Sorority during my Freshman year at Tennessee Tech, and it was one of the best decisions I made.
At the time, I was so excited about the 4 years of friendships, mixers, socials, fundraising, and laughter I knew I would experience, never did I dream of what this commitment would look like for the rest of my life. Sure, we were told, "once a KD always a KD", but to see that play out in my life has been quite exciting!

I've been out of college for almost 6 years now (GASP!!) but the bonds of Kappa Delta are still strong in my life.

The Kappa Delta Chapter at Tennessee Tech hosted a fundraiser for our adoption. I got a call from the current President, Lindsey, who told me about the Skate for Bates fundraiser they were hosting. All the planning was done, and the flyers were going up the next day!
What a blessing, a fundraiser that we weren't planning. Someone else was taking lead and simply letting us benefit from their hard work and generosity.

Unfortunatly, Nick and I couldn't go the actual Skate Night, but here are some pictures.

The 80s themed skate night was a big hit and people braved the snow and cold, and came out to help us bring our son home.

Last night Nick and I headed to Cookeville and I went to the KD meeting where they presented me with a check for $1000!!!!! Isn't that unbelievable! What a blessing!!!
Here I am with the current president, Lindsey, and below with the whole chapter.

In all honestly, I don't know all these girls names, in fact, I only know a handful. I wouldn't be able to pick them out in a crowd, but this is a shining example of what being a Kappa Delta means, what being a sister means. We are connected through our bonds of sisterhood. And these bonds span time, miles, and hearts - forever.

Thank you again, girls! I hope to see you all at the airport when we get home with Bates! And you can babysit anytime!
