Let's Learn about Korea: The Olympics

I love the Olympics. They are magical and for the 16 days they are on, I clear my schedule. I'd take vacation time, if I had that much and simply stay home and cheer on Team USA.

This year watching the Olympics has been a little different. Not only did I get goosebumps when Team USA walked out during the opening ceremonies, but I also got them when Team Korea walked out.

I was pulling hard for Apollo Ono to win on the short track, but when the two Korean skaters fell and knocked themselves off the podium (and a Korean sweep) I just couldn't cheer as loudly.

Did you know PyeongChang, South Korea was the runner up host city for the 2010 Olympics? South Korea was actually winning the bid after the first round of voting, but ended up loosing to the current host city, Vancouver, Canada. It's a good thing too, or it'd be nearly impossible to travel to Korea right now.

Currently, Korea has 4 medals: 3 golds and 1 silver. All of them in speed skating. Maybe Bates will be a speed skater? He certainly isn't allowed to be a Luger.
